The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is a long-standing tradition of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King. The weekend-long celebration kicks off on Friday, January 12, 2018 and ends on Monday, January 16, 2018.

This year’s theme is “Reflect on Yesterday for a Better Tomorrow.”

The MLK Celebration Fair
Friday, January 12, 2018, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M
MLK Recreation Center- 2901 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Attendees can discover job opportunities, apply for college, and receive free medical screenings. This event is free and open to the public.

The MLK Candlelight Ceremony
Friday, January 12, 2018, from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
MLK Recreation Center-2901 Pennsylvania Avenue

This event is hosted by the Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., with Keynote Speaker Pastor Freddie Haynes of Friendship West Baptist Church. Winners of the Dr. King Scholarship and Essay Contest will be announced. This event is free and open to the public.

The MLK Awards Banquet
Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 6:30 p.m.
Hyatt Regency Dallas- 300 Reunion Boulevard.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the silent auction, with proceeds going towards MLK Social Services programs. The Keynote Speaker is Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President of Repairers of the Breach. Special guests include Yolonda Williams, Host of CW33’s Newsfix and the Life School Oak Cliff Honor Choir. Tickets are $85 and can be purchased online at dallasmlkcenter.com/mlkcelebration.

The Annual MLK Day Parade
Monday, January 15 at 10:00 A.M.

The parade starts at the intersection of Holmes Street and MLK Boulevard. It will proceed down MLK Blvd. to the entrance of Fair Park. Participants include elected officials, high school bands and dance teams, car clubs, horses, local businesses and other community organizations. The parade will be streamed live on CW33. This is a free event.
