BrainDead's first Mario Kart 64 tournament! We’ve done Smash 64 tournaments in the past but it’s time for a change, and who hasn’t played a round or nineteen of Mario Kart? Prizes to Top 4 players!
This event is 21+
Dallas’ premier gaming podcast, The Inner Gamer, will be recording a podcast that night, as well as commentating the semi and finals for the audience and Twitch stream.
We will also have a few other systems on CRTs for those that aren't playing in the tournament.
$10 buy-in, funds go to BrainDead Video Game Fight Night system/accessory maintenance. Bring cash! The $10 also gets those 21+ a drink ticket good for one pint of house beer. Whaaaaat?
Our tournament will be played on a projector screen on an N64 with OG/Gen Classic controllers. You can use your own controllers but modding is not allowed.
We will be running TWO TOURNAMENTS simultaneously.
HEREIN ARE THE TOURNEY RULEZ…
Up to 64 players for prelim. We will CAP at 64 players per tournament (128 total), slots are first-come-first-serve. Once we have 64 players we will close sign-up for the tournament, so get there early if you plan to play.
Single elimination prelims to get to Top 16 players.
Four player VS matches.
150cc, all characters legal.
First round will be randomly seeded.
Players with the highest point count will pick their character first (best seed picks first, then second best, etc).
1st and 2nd winners advance, 3rd and 4th go home.
TOP 2 of each tournament will advance to the FINALS!
Each match will consist of four races, and will have a points system as follows:
1st Place = 9 Points
2nd Place = 6 Points
3rd Place = 3 Points
4th Place = 1 Points
First round: Flower Cup
Second round: Star Cup
Third round: Special Cup
COURSE GLITCHES/SHORTCUTS ARE ILLEGAL. Using course glitches (I.e. Wario stadium wall jump, Frappe Snowland spin around lap-skip, Rainbow road jump, Royal Raceway jump, other lap-skipping techniques) will result in immediate elimination.
Things like Koopa Beach’s cave shortcut, or any shortcut programmed into the game intentionally by the developers, is legal. Basically follow the track the programmers made for you to follow and you’re good.
